What were you doing on September 11th, 2001?

Originally Answered: Where were you when you received the tragic news of September 11, 2001?

I and my wife were on a cruise ship in the middle of the Baltic Sea. I had gone down to the theater for a lecture on the Romanovs by a British couple. I sat next to a man who asked me in a British accent if I had heard that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. I had not, but I remembered that a B-25 had crashed into the Empire State Building at the end of WW2. I waited until the lecture to end and returned to my cabin and turned on the BBC. I then saw the second plane go in and knew that it was no accident.
